Italian Sesame Cookies

Mary loves calling these “old lady cookies”.  No nuts, no chocolate and not much else.  I won’t tell her but in about ten years, she’s gonna love’ em.  They are great, keep forever and just the thing you need to dunk in tea or whatever. Mary, I really know you’re going to make these for me.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • tbsp baking powder
  • 3 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ lb lard, melted
  • 1 tbsp vanilla
  • 1 lb toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Mix dry ingredients, except sesame seeds
  • Add eggs, milk, melted lard and vanilla
  • Mix well and shape into long rolls about 1/2inch thick
  • Using a pastry brush and water, brush logs well and roll in sesame seeds
  • Cut into 2 inch long pieces ande on ungreased cookie sheets in the middle of a preheated 375° oven for 18-20 minutes until golden

Notes

I had to cut this recipe down, no one wants to work with 12 cups of flour.  Add 5 cups of flour to start, keeping one-cup aside.  You can knead in the last cup; the dough may not take it all.
